Hi,

Don't know if anyone can help, I've got two ht6354s which have the original Smith's rev counters with a cable operated a/c generator. However, they dont read accurately and all 'bounce' so I can see what they are reading most of the time.

I'd like to replace them with a magnetic pickup version, but I am wondering if there is a place on these engines to do that?

Alternatively get the originals restored?

Thanks for an help!

Nic

This probably won't help but....

My Rev Counter (a standard 6.354 NA) picks up the blue/black and brown/black wires out of the loom.
Thanks for the post, ours are really early and don't really have a loom to speak of, the tachos are cable driven to a generator...

If they are HT's they are hardly 'really early'! My 6.354 is pre-turbo (thank goodness). But it certainly doesn't have cables. But you will have a loom - oil pressure senders, temp senders etc. I am afraid I cannot pick up from where my two wires originated. I regret I cannot find any reference to the cable/generator in the manual.

You can get digital aftermarket items which can pick up from any rotating part, usually the botton pulley is used as this is at true engine speed whereas camshafts are at half engine speed, so look at these aftermarket kits and see if any suit your needs.
