Perkins 6354. What\'s it worth?

A mate has just bought a sailing boat with this engine, circa 1984, we motored it from the Solent to Plymouth over the weekend, the engine didn't miss a beat but cos the boat's going to have a major facelift he will replace the engine.

Anyone any idea what it might be worth as it might as well be sold rather than scrapped.

There are quite a few ex mod 6354 's about and in "as new" preserved condition they seem to sell for between £500 and £1500.

I take it with no "T" prefix you mean a non turbo 6354?

No, it is a turbo engine.

Maybe worth his while thinking about putting a newer ex MOD version back in.

Must be quite a big saily boat to have a 6354, turbo versions anywhere between 135 and 165 hp.

I think Perkins claim that the Mxxx series phaser blocks are a drop in replacement but in reality they are not plus the phaser block suffers from air trapped at the front of the block as you approach the max nose up installation angle (I had a M225Ti that suffered this). Plus they claim inaccurate HP ratings.

Good turbo engine probly worth 1500.

Look on FOC website for info about that engine.

Re: Perkins 6354. What\'s it worth?

I've just discovered that one of my twin 6354T's has a cracked exhaust manifold. I am told a Perkins replacement will be best part of £1k with substitute £600 - £700. Does that give a clue to its value?

Mine are dated 1977 with a refurb in 1992.

What condition is his manifold??????
