Perkins 4236 Raw Water Pump - Repair, Replace, Refurbish Kit

Hello,

I have a sea water leak from the transmission side of the seawater pump. So far I can't find if there is a rebuild kit and a new one costs an arm and a leg, see below. Does anyone know if there is a rebuild kit, or if they can be serviced using seperatly sourced O rings? Perhaps they can be traded in against a rebuilt pump, if it involves sleeving and reaming. I am not sure how they are built as the pump looks as if it is clamped onto the gear shaft, so I assume that it slides off. However, the new ones are sold with the gear, maybe suggesting that there is more to it, maybe a press fit. Does anyone have tips or experience for servicing these pumps?

well they do bolt on/off and that supplied gear meshes in with the timing gear. I had the same issue and just bit the bullet on the cost. I have not heard of a rebuild kit.
 
That's a hellava price, my M30 raw water pump came apart pretty easy, I replaced the O rings for about 10 pence. Slightly different pump I know. Have you tried stripping it?

Do tractors up there use seawater to cool their engines!

BOB - if it is a Jabsco pump go here: Jabsco 10970 - ¾" bronze pump, 40-size, flange-mounted with NPT threaded ports / Bronze Engine Cooling Pumps / Pumps / Marine / Xylem JabscoShop - Jabsco & Rule Pumps and more - from the experts. If it is a Johnson you need to go to that source. Unfortunately the Jabsco kit is out of stock but give them a ring.

Using a service kit isn't difficult, especially if the whole pump is removed and taken to a convenient bench.
 
Thanks for all the replies. Looks like a rebuild kit will do the trick. Looks easy enough.

I have friends in the USA who can buy stuff like this and post it over.

I also have the workshop manual but it is for the standard motors. The marine supplement is not that detailed around this.

Thanks for the Jabsco link and cross section drawing, parts list, very clear. Looks like the required parts are out of stock.

Thanks for helping but as mentioned by Penfold that is not the pump. I do have a link to the pump in my opening post.

I have everything I now need to organise a repair, thanks all for your help.
