Our water pump expired the other day - bearings have failed and we have a fairly impressive leak. I believe that the Perkins was used in Ford Transit vans so sourcing a replacement should be fairly easy. But which Transit? Anyone know before I start annoying the local motor factors?

I've found one on the intraweb at £75 but I'm rather hoping I might find one fairly locally for a few fewer pounds.

Thanks,

Colin

If I was you I would find out which Massey Ferguson Tractor used the Perkins 4108. I had the same problem 30 years ago when I bought a boat built in Finland but it had a Perkins 4236. You would probably find that any Massey Ferguson Dealer will have a water pump for your engine on the shelf as well as all the other service parts. And cheap.

Not wishing to hijack the thread but me too . What type was it ???

I had the same problem last week in Spain and have just been looking for spares, this company www.parts4engines.com are offering a new Perkins 4108 pump for £55.00 ! Unfortunately it is not the same as the one on my boat so I am still looking but it may be the same as yours.

Bye the Bye, just remembered I have a parts book for the Transit Perkins (Sad I know)
Part No 08/65 to 05/66 68VB 8501 AB Fin No 1554438
05/66 to 09/71 71Vb 8501 AA Fin No 1540717

Perkins fitted to the "Pig Nose" Transit.
Makes a better boat engine than it ever did a van engine !

B U T the pump housing fouled my engine block and I had to use an angle grinder to saw off a lump of the replacement pump. However, this was purely external and had no effect on the pump itself. I was perfectly satisfied with the coy's service.

Hey guys this thread is a bit rudderless.

Little Perkins 4.108 1,760 cc IDI LDA engine around 200 kg fitted to Mk1 Transit 1965-1974 when replaced by Fords own York diesel.

Totally unrelated Perkins 4.236 3,900 cc DI MR engine 380 kg, huge volume motor in agricultural industrial markets, until last few years was the worlds largest selling 1 litre per cylinder motor.

A pump rebuilder should be fine, however £75 does not sound out of the way for a 4.236 pump with no exchange, 4.108 has been out of production for so long prices will be rising for this unit.
