Like many 4108's my oil filter is mounted so that its "upside down" and drains back when the engine is turned off. I am trying to find out which filters have a non-return valve so that this doesn't happen. The problem is that my local motor factors can't identify which filters have non-return valves. Can anyone give me makes and model numbers that fit a 4108 and have a non-return valve?
Thanks,
Nigel

If you look at the filter where the row of return holes are, the valve is a rubber flap. Well that's what I think anyway, but I have known to be wrong, so my wife says.

When going by the SD1 filter Google tells that the standard filter is 138mm vs. short model at 102mm

Full height part. no. is LRF000320EVA or GFE145

QOF5505 is short too, at 114mm

By looking at cross ref. numbers at
http://www.findpart.org/

you find

Does that mean there is no pressure at your bearing until the filter fills on start up ?

Thank you Spi D, just what I wanted.

Clyst. Yes, I believe that to be the case. The oil pressure takes some seconds to register from cold, before reaching 50psi. Stupidly I had thought that all oil filters were built to the same specifications.

I believe that the non-return valve as you call it is also known as an Anti Drainback Valve (ADV). I have a picture of a perkins 4108 fitted to an Oyster 406 with a Champion C148 oil filter fitted. Looking at the In Line Filters website for a C148, shows that it is fitted with an ADV and lists a whole bunch of compatible filters. I'm pretty sure I have a Baldwin BT216 fitted to mine, which also has an ADV fitted. I changed the oil filter recently and was surprised how little oil leaked out of the filter when I inverted it - the ADV must be doing its job!
