Does anyone know what model of enfield outdrive would have been fitted to a perkins 4108 in a seamaster 23 and if so what max horsepower the drive could take.
Also if there are any engines used or recon that would fit stright on the drive without to much fuss something 80 100 hp if this is possible.

There was apparently an article in one of the motorboats issues that covered the reengining of said boat, anyone know of this.

Thanks,

probably a 130 if it has a side winding thingy, if it trim/tilt then it's a 130H.

apparently the 130 is the max hp, but i'm advised that it's not a good idea to put that much poke through it.

check out lancings, the ford xld 16/1800' are popular, ask about the perkins prima (rover 200 TDI) they do all the marinising bits.

good luck, steve.

hi, max diesel hp of 130 enfield is 80hp ,so a ford 2.5 fsd can be fitted, the coupling kit is a bit steep ,but yyou get a direct coupling ,no shafts at all(300+).However you may be be as well to comprmise on horsepower and go for a smaller engine =less weight,my 23project boat is slightly stern heavy because it has the fsd(still trimming it up) .You can get a heavy duty Enfield drive but your talking approx 4000 for a bare leg.

According to my Enfield manual:
Max power Petrol Engine = 130 bhp @ 5,000 rpm
Max power Diesel Engine = 78 bhp @ 4,500rpm

But if you look at the Enfield section on Lancing Marine's site htttp://www.lancingmarine.com/sonic.html
They state that max power for pleasure use is 2.5 hp per 100 rpm, they don't differentiate between Petrol and Diesel.
Which suggests that if the diesel revs high enough you can exceed the 78bhp. Although I wouldn't want to go above 85hp.
As Aztec said the Perkins Prima is an ideal size, in turbo form it's rated at 80hp. These engines are found in Rover cars (e.g. Montego Turbo, Sherpa vans etc). It's the same engine as the V*lv* TMD22.

Aztec is right,my guess is you have a Enfield 130 if fitted to a single engine.
I have 130H fitted to my twin Perkins 4108's.
You do not say what knots you are getting out of the existing drive.
Weight is also to be watched as before mentioned.
In my RLM27 at 2000rpm she cruises happily at 5 knots,6 knots at 2200 rpm at sea,8knots flat out But using only 1 gall/hr per engine but I am not in a hurry to get anywhere fast
I looked at re-engining but nothing is as simple as it sounds, if the engine bearers fit the new engine you will be lucky, then bigger engines need more fuel, more fuel needs bigger tanks(more weight) plus pipework, wiring, more sound proofing etc.
No I will stick with my old perkins, they statrt every time and just keep me sailing!

Good sailing
