My present boat has a Perkins 4108, like the previous one.

The previous engine had no anodes, as some 4108 were fitted with anodes: where do I look for in the new engine to check if it has them ?

The previous owner could not tell..

thanks

Mine is fresh water cooled, with heat exchanger.

AFAIK, many engines were originally electrically insulated from the sea (in theory, cooling sea water offered a path for current anyway): negative return to battery, etc so they were not fitted with anodes; but there were other engines which were supposed to be grounded and accordingly were fitted with anodes, for ex at the heat exchanger.

I looked at my engine and there are a few bolt heads here and there that could be those hiding an anode, but before unscrewing anything I wanted to be sure.

My version of the manual does not say anything about anodes..

I have had several 4107/8 engined boats, none have had anodes, and my manuals does not mention them.
My current one has an additional anode along side the rope cutter on the propellor shaft, and a copper earthing strand between the two.
Hope that helps

Do u Have a TMP gearbox.
if so u should change the existing raw water inlet / out-let
nipples that the cooling pipes are attached to ( the originals were brass / gun-metal ) these r now made in zinc as the raw water cooling fitted by Duffields have a mixture of copper pipes + Alloy gearbox housings. this equates to a battery i had to have a gearbox rebuild @ £1100.00. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

i still have a set of spare zinc anodes if anybody wants them @ a reasonable price as i have re-engined & there not now required /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
