I have one of these pushing my boat around due to lack of winds. A loud but very effective little engine. However I need to replace a couple of bits and the Workshop Manual is proving to be unhelpful in the areas I need to know about.

I need to replace the oil pressure sensor switch, once the oil gets hot I am getting the warning light, with plenty of oil, fresh oil, fresh filter etc. I do not have an oil pressure gauge but the engineer who checked out the warning thinks it will just be the sensor. However the manual does not give a part number and there are no markings visible on the sensor.

Also my water temperature sensor, which still works, seems to have a loose inner core, I would like to replace that before something significant happens. Again, no part number listed.

Are oil sensors all interchangeable? the trigger pressure is listed but no part number. And water temperature sensors- do they vary?

With my Perkins 4.270 engine I replaced both the oil pressure sender (not switch) and gauge, as well as the water temp sender. The oil pressure sender hole was 1/8" NPT. It's earthed via the engine block. Check whether your's is twin wire or single wire (if single wire it's earthed via the engine block).

I replaced mine with one from these guys.

As far as I understand it you have three variables to consider. Hole size and thread (1/8" versus 1/4" and NPT versus BSP), how it's earthed, and the gauge's resistance range.

The water temperature sender was just one from a tractorparts supplier. I've no idea how interchangeable these are.

Incidentally I also added a oil pressure switch (long story). After about an hour of running the idiot light does flicker on and off. The oil pressure gauge still shows an correct pressure (40psi) though. The switch is supposed to trigger at 20PSI so perhaps it's just not calibrated correctly. The hotter oil, being less viscous, is close to the limit. I guess I'm not worried.

Good luck.

Cheers
Chris

If you don't have any luck with the above suggestions try DiPerk, they are the official Perkins parts distributors in the UK. Their technical guys can help identify the correct part numbers.

Just checked my workshop manual which covers 103-06 09 and 10 and it shows the Perkins part no 185246060. Hope this helps.
