Every now and then I see a post that go's....

"even though I'm new here or don't post I'm often horrified by the attitude and/or comments made by some of the regulars."

Firstly some people are clearly not familiar with true horror.

Secondly. Isn't this rather like going into a bar and saying "what a nice pub but you blokes at the bar are all oafs."

Very often there's talk about superiority or arrogance or rudeness.

I'd have thought it was an example of these very traits to make one of your few contributions a critical one.

Fair point. This forum is one of the best mannered on the interweb. There is another anarchic sailing forum where the level of abuse, while maybe not actually horrifying, is certainly educational!

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Perhaps they should be given a boll***ing for not having done a search on the subject and discovered that it had already been covered many times on earlier threads! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

What really gets up my nose ...

... are posters who complain about posters who complain about posters.

Me? I'm just a poster who complains about posters who complain about posters who complain about posters. What could be more reasonable than that!

An excellent comparison in my "oafish" opinion, and if they get the literary equivalent of a fist full of knuckles in return they should not be surprised.

The "oaf's" on these forums turn out to be very nice people - not that I have met any of them, me being 12,000 miles away, but some send greetings, etc which I hardly expected from even the "non-oaf's". Eeeek, maybe that means I am one of them /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif.

Re: Cod\'s Wallop!!!!

What a load of old cod’s wallop!!!!!!
These mamby pamby types get right under my skin It’s lighthearted fun! It’s a forum you can leave if you want!, It’s a place for a bit of fishing where a few have a bit of harmless fun reeling them in!!!!!I’ts a place for a bit of sarcasm!, It’s a place where you can get extremely good response from a daft post! It’s a place where there is a wealth of knowledge from like-minded people, where life shouldn’t be too serious as it is very short in the big scheme of things!!! Sit back and enjoy the colour- full characters that post on this forum. When I feel a bit low I log on and have a little giggle now and then at some of the posts. DON’T WORRY It’s light entertainment.

Anyway back to selling my house, big boat here I come.

Re: Language

One thing I enjoy about Scuttlebutt is the debates about nautical terms.

Where does Cod's Wallup originate from?

Re: Language

There are some good explanations on google, I would use and hear the term back in the fifties and sixties, Brought up in East London, the old Billingsgate fish market and Pudding Lane down by Tower Bridge, On my Fathers side we were costermongers working the east London markets, every son and grandson would do their apprentice on the barrow, It was a good colourful life for us kids.

You can see the connection cod piece,,, a load of b*****ks
