perfect sailor's phone?

Last Sony product I bought was a Walkman - the clue is in the title - you walk with it. Then after three months it packed up and hadn't been near a boat.

Returned it to Sony who said I had got it wet, and they wanted to charge me £30 for the privilege of telling me it was beyond repair, not a valid warranty claim and unless I paid even more I couldn't have it back.

They didn't get their £30, I never saw my property again, and ...

LAST SONY PRODUCT I WILL EVER EVER BUY, AVOID

Hi Dylan

Well we are known as that golden island in the trade, if you look at the spec on electronics or cars you will find like for like the spec in Japan is far better then in the UK .

This used to be true but isn't any more. OK, most phones have digital TV built in but they have nowt else. Benefits of being an even smaller Island nation. Interfaces have been bulky and slow, in fact most are now moving to Android to catch up.

On replacing my phone for a Sony Xperia Z - which is waterproof I found that Navionics doesn't work on it.

Thanks for that. I have the Motorola Defy, which has worked really well for the last two years. My only complaints are battery life and, when using it as a backup plotter, the screen's a bit small. I was thinking of moving over to the Experia Z, but if it can't run Navionics then I'll wait for while yet.

I liked the bit " He added that about one in 10 people had dropped their phone down a toilet at some point, something this would protect against.". Do you often phone whilst having a pee? Can you hit the target and still text? What about background noises? And do you wash your phone as well as your hands?

Id go with the iphone as the best all round option. Easy use, apps for everything, weather, tides, navigation, AIS etc. Waterproof covers available for use in inclement conditions and Thuraya do a sleeve and app that turn it into a full function sat phone as well. Although many people arent keen on Apple for whatever reason, at the end of the day it may not be cheap but it does it all.
