If you look at the last few seconds you can see the rudder flapping in the breeze. That, presumably, was the root cause, though why they didn't let the sheets fly or the halyards run is a bit perplexing.

Yes, the steering had gone. I still thought it admirable to dock it so tighly, without steering, using sheets alone.

It seemed to be the Rothschild boat hit it up the chuff that broke the rudders.

What would you do in that situation...heading for a concrete wall at 15kts+ and no steering. I know where I'd rather be.

My thoughts exactly...presumably they can't as everything is permanantly attached and they only use travelllers to adjust sail angle. Anyone know for sure?

They should still have a knife each, I would have cut the main sheet much easier to repair than a hull
