The new generation 'Ruby Dry' deseccant dehumidifier automatically controls the humidity to a chosen level and works down to + 1C, which is prevented from occuring as the Ruby Dry churns out dry warm air and raises the temperature by 12C. Available from Piplers of Poole who were very helpful in researching this - thank you John.

Let us know how well it works.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is the high power consumption - 435w, where the mitsuibishi uses only 275w. It's £100 more than the ruby but might pay for itself over a few years use.

I looked at one but went for an XM Dehumidifier 101HGD from Marine Super Store, mainly because it was reduced to £99 from £199.
It is a compressor dehumidifier, weighing only 14Kgs.

It fits in the sink, so I don't have to keep emptying it. I have set it to 'comfort' humidity so it doesn't run all the time. It arrived last week and seems to be very efficient.

I checked it at lunchtime - boat is on trailer on drive - and it is dehumidifying nicely. There is an oil filled radiator in there as well, so hot gas defrost will not be tested at the moment, even if it did freeze.

I picked it because it fits in sink, has carrying handle, uses tried and tested method, is comparatively light and was cheap.

Mine today.
Lorry picking it up from Chatham tomorrow
Lorry delivering it to Swansea thursday lunchtime.

I got one of those as well, perhaps not quite as fancy as the £199 job but a lot cheaper. They sold me a bit of tube to fit on the back so it can drain to the sink, and yes it has a variable control on the top. Got mine here

Hi there,
Glad to here you have purchased a Ruby Dry.

I posted last year after discovering the "Amberdry" at our local B&Q Depot, after which I found a link to the rubydry via the NET.
It is exactly the same & I was unable to determine any difference in spec.
The reception to my findings on here at the time were mixed, as you may imagine without knowledge of how it worked a few were reluctant to trust a new kind of dehumidifier.

I am glad to say that after last winters season the boat remained warm & perfectly dry throughout, it has just been replaced onboard for this winter.

I had a bargain at the time & tried to convince others that it was worth the effort to track one down but I don't know if they did.

If you want to read the posts try a search for "AMBERDRY", that should find them.

Does it have a humidistat?

Yes it does. I have just checked it, as I turned of heater to test it and it had gone into hot gas defrost mode.

Got one for £189.00 (+£9.99 next day delivery) on ebay "buy it now option" !!
Plus if you use Paypal you get another £14.00 discount if you quote C11-GIFTGUIDE on the paypal checkout page.

Just ordered one of these XM Dehumidifier 101HGD from Marine Super Store as well - 99squid & free carriage seems a good deal to me!
