Having had a superb Sunday Lunch at the Perch & Pike a week or two ago, the Eileen and I together with 4 ODCC members went there last Saturday.
I can only describe it as appalling. Three of us ordered Rabbit what we got was a scrawny rabbit thigh each on a smear of watery mash. Literally that was it together with a minuscule amount of nondescript ponge, swelp me if the mash amounted to a little more than a teaspoonful.
BE WARNED ! The £8.50 cheeseboard consist of three slivers of cheese and some grapes.

What a shame, we were hoping for improvements with the new regime. What is it about that place these days?

Thats not good, rabbit! thought that was food for dogs or poachers :)

Well Chris, Rabbit Thighs are about a fiver for six ready dressed from the Butcher. To issue each Diner with one on a teaspoonful of watery mucus claiming to be a bed of mash is a bit of an insult when charging £16 a pop.

So did you complain? If it was as bad as you suggest I certainly would have done !

Nobody complained formally but we made it known we were singularly unimpressed. I don't think they gave a toss anyway. Clive Folley wanted to but didn't want to have a ruck in front of everyone.

I used to feel like that but not any more. If they want my money I expect good food and service in return. As a village stalwart you could let them know how embarrassed you were for your friends !

you had a problem but chose not to complain to the people that can/could rectify a situation,so you come in here and complain, something that will acheive nothing

Our displeasure was made known at the time though a formal complaint wasn't made. As far as achieving something. I wonder how many people who rally to Ashmount will now avoid the place. Certainly when asked, as I always am, I will suggest using the Beetle & Wedge for a consistently good meal.
Furthermore how do you know that the matter hasn't been brought to their attention in the form of a letter or Email or even via Village Facebook.

I guess Fred and Ann must have got some 'compensation' from having a very good lunch at the Golf Club with 25 other ODCC members the following day! Even the Serengeti well down well.:D:D

First Mate and I had a similar experience elsewhere.

When the bill was presented my friend, who was shouting the lunch, paid for the wine and the starters and IIRC a £1.00 per head for the appalling main course. He left his name and address and made it clear that her would welcome being taken to court for the balance.

During the resulting conversation with the manager another table decided on a similar course of action.

The establishment went to the wall shortly afterwards.

Not meeting the bill in full is an accepted practice if poor value is experienced.

Worth remembering for the future-but then I doubt you will eat there again..................
