Pela Oil Change Pumps-Any Good and if so Which One

I've got one but the only job I've not done with it yet is change oil.
It has drained bilges, syphoned water/petrol mix out of someones car but not drained oil.
I see no reason why it won't be OK it is fine doing the other things!
Mine is the round football shaped one.

I bought the slightly larger-capacity 6.5 litre ones. Recommended. I bought one for home, and one for the boat. Then the one on the boat seemed a bit dicky, so bought another. Then it wasn't dicky, so i have three. The football-shaped ones probably better if storage is at a premium, which it usually is...

yes I have one and they are very convenient for changing the oil although a little slow.the y are god for small amount of bilge as well but prone to blocking with any debris. the globe shaped one is quite adequete and stores easily. buy from nauticalia much cheaper than direct from manufacturer

I bought a big one at Southampton Boat Show last year.

Agree it's slow, but you can mostly just let it get on with it. SWMBO pumps the handle anyway.

Also used it to get the grunge out of the bilge. Reaches parts other bilge pumps don't.

Far far better than the brass types, especially on a big engine like the 6 litre Ford diesel.

If I was starting from scratch though, I'd plumb in electric ones to the sump drain plugs. You never seem to get all the oil out with a pipe down the dip-stick orifice.

Just changed the oil on both my KAD43's with a Pela 6 litre football version...totally brillient. Make sure the oil is really warmed up first (run for 15 mins) otherwise it takes for ever.
Each engine holds 11 litres so you need two sessions for each engine.

Buy the larger cylinder model the small round one is usless importer will tell same.
The other is very good and used by many yards, I've hand mine 3 years and its worth every penny.

Trick to resolve the blocking with bilge water is to get a length of 10mm or 3/8th hose and connect to cap instead, doesn't block and has the benefit of being much quicker!
