Sadly, our boat purchase plans look to have stalled due to a VAT admin farce, so we are looking at alternatives. We have seen a Pearl 43 advertised, and was wondering what views people held on this boat before diving in with the broker?

As I always say, if VAT status / proof is important to you then check it early on and don't believe any billy bullshit stories about the previous owner having it, etc!

dabsolute on here has one - only pops in occasionally. Nice boats - spacious and comfortable and well built from what I have seen.

My view on this is that in a case like this there should be some kind of regulation in force .
You have wasted time and much money to Perdue a purchase that no finance house would touch .
This in my view is the vendors fault but more to the point the brokers fault , you were mislead into a purchase that would never have gone through for finance .
The vendor will realise his mistake in the future months .
You certainly made a correct choice in pulling your offer.

Just shows buyers really need to see and check out a boats history and necessary paperwork before you waste valuable time and money on lifts and surveys , and more to the point selling agents need to sharpen up there practices to safeguard there reputation.
As you can see I’m quite strong with my words and feel for you over this , had this happened to me I’d be seeking legal advise to recoup my losses chasing a deal that would never got off the ground .
I hope I’m not out of order on this one, but a help to others.

VP,

Thanks for the post. Only our second purchase so, painful lessons learned and useful experience gained. Really grateful to have your support on this one - as you know there was more than the VAT issue that put us off, but to get so far in before it was flagged was really annoying. Fingers crossed for next time!

Sorry to hear this, I had a situation where paperwork never arrived, I was able to chase it down in the end but frustrating and time consuming never the less.

Why cant there just be a standard procedure that the broker is shown all documentation prior to listing.

Pearl 43 I think used Humber hull and deck moulds
Starred the company by giving a more luxury fit out to an existing boat.

The Humber hull is good and the pearl fit out nice so no major issues - just the usual age/wear caveats that affect any second hand purchase

I really like Pearl boats. I believe that the aft cabin makes access to the stern gear challenging, so essential maintenance can be sporadic. Really worthwhile getting a Pilates expert down their to check it out

P43 is significantly different to their later in house designs if the 50/55/60
Much more like a traditional burchwood or F43 age cabin design.

As I said, it’s a reworking of a Humber hull (I think a 448 but I may have that number wrong)

I looked at a Pearl 43 at Essex Boatyards quite a few years back (2011) but decided to go for a Sealine F43. As Jez says, I believe it had the Humber hull, Jim Pritchard surveyed it for me, unfortunately, there were too many issues found on survey so I aborted the purchase.

The standard of fit-out was very good indeed and I really liked the boat; access to the stern gear and engine room could be gained IIRC by removing panels in the aft cabin, I think I may still have some images somewhere....
