I am wanting to connect my laptop to my ICOM M710 radio so that I can receive weather fax. Searching this forum the JVCom software would seem to be the preferred option for software. The bit I'm stuck on is the connection between radio and laptop, what sort of a cable do I need and where do I connect it to?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Seasons Greetings.

Steve

I have an M710 and am both a radio ham and a licenced marine operator so use Winlink and Sailmail. I connect via a Pactor 3 modem which is also my interface for weatherfax and rtty. Shame not to have Pactor if you have an M710 and it is streets ahead of using an audio link for rtty and weatherfax.

Dead easy Steve! At least it shhould be. Most SSB's have a 3.5mm jackplug socket outlet for headphones/extension speaker. Similarly, all laptops I've had, have had the same facility for 'Mic in' (microphone input).

Just plug in a lead of adequate length between the SSB and the laptop using these two sockets. This allows JV to use the laptops sound card, which it what the software was designed for.

If you have any problems initially setting up the JVComm (which can take time but is well worth the effort) PM me, and I'll send you a set of Configuration inputs that should get you started.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Steve,

Should have made clear that the 3.5mm plugs should be MONO not stereo. I've found, on different set-ups, that whilst stereo plugs will sometimes work, mono ones always do!!

Cheers Jerry
