I took Byron's advice and posted my question about Princess exhausts on the PBO forum. Guess what - not a sausage, not even a 'welcome to the forum'.

Bet if I'd said it was a 1934 16hp Schitpotfartschniffer I would have been innundated with replies. Going to try again and say it's a Princess motor sailer.

It could be that nobody knows! But welcome to the forum anyway! I would have a look for you, but I'm not there and it's very difficult to make a diagnosis, on the basis of theres sacking hanging out, if princess don't know, it may have been fitted later, I still think it must be some kind of de-lamination or some kind of insulation, that has become unbonded. But don't knock the lads over there, if they knew they would tell you!

You really need to investigate the source of this stuff, I guess you're not near the boat now? I would be tempted to cut a piece off and see what it's made of. Then go from there. Maybe Halyard who make all kinds of exhausty type bits could help?

Agree with you Colin, almost certainly has to be exhaust pipe delamination, if it's old then I would replace it anyway, not particularly expensive, very easy to do and will need doing at some future date anyway. Really nothing to lose.

The PBO isn't a chatty Forum it is the haunt of dudes who can and do fix things themselves. Whereas us lot here are just a bunch of Philistines incapable of holding a spanner but able to grope a bird, eat their grub, pour a fresh drink, mix exotic cocktails, tell a gag... all at the same time yet still have a hand free to point at a nice bit of Totty walking by.
