Pbo aug 2016

Snooks did mention that they ( TI) had new printers, but one suspects that we will be treated to a rationalisation and amalgamation of the range in the near future.

You will be able to tell your grandchildren of the good old days when a few sailing magazines on board were used to trim the boat every time you tacked.

Saw the new issue the other day in the airport (first time in a good few months since I've looked) and was surprised how thin it has got. Then looking at the issue 1 through the above link, I realise that the adverts are the best bit and these are missing from the current issues. Shame really.

If you want a thicker magazine do your bit and send David Pugh some articles! I did, and one of mine is on page 59. Comparisons with a decade ago are a bit unfair, in that there is now a higher ratio of editorial matter to adverts.

It's not just a reduction in the commercial advetising. Under the heading "Find a Boat" it's more like Where's Wally? While the internet can be very useful and convenient, it is destroying many other media and services and it's hard to keep up with how to access what you need if Google (other searches available) doesn't find it first go.

Rob.

There seems to be one of these complaints most months. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
When I first bought it, there were about ten pages of boats for sale. These are now on tinternet.

If only I could persuade my wife to do just that. She does a bi-monthly warts & all blog about our liveaboard life which has received much applause & recommendations from friends to get her work(s) published. But no, she feels its not good enough. I've told her endless times to send it in to a sailing mag & find out.
Stubborn as a mule :)

Would suggest its not a monthly decision to buy or not to buy as the complaining peeps are likely to be subscriber's.

I would agree with a previous comment around the need for owners like us to send them articles to contribute to it. I sent in one about a winter job I did on my boat and it got published in the last summer edition. Still a good read :-)

They sub edit reader submitted articles so it doesn't have to perfect. I sent in a feature a while ago which was altered slightly.[y=Sandyman;5761254]If only I could persuade my wife to do just that. Did he pay for the article?

That download is an excellent link thankyou. Love looking at all the old boats when they were new. Might have to search some back issues at car boots and jumbles. Great childhood memories too looking at boats like this in marinas and local harbours. Nice to see that most of them are still around too. Would love to see 1970's ones when marcon were in full swing making my own boat.

I was encouraged by some members on the forums here to send one of my blogs to PBO that I did to help other forumites and Ballad owners with the various fiddling projects I did - to my surprise they welcomed it and published it. I'm onto my fourth article now (Page 60 - sailing with under-fives :encouragement:). They are very open and even leave in my rather off the wall 'humour' (I did an article for YM ages ago, and then trimmed most of that out :P). Roz is lovely, and always has time to chat things through. If you have written anything to help others, tidy it up and send it in.

Keep encouraging her, though a good blog is probably better sent to Yachting Monthly.
