I have received two spoof emails that look alarmingly like the real "Paypal" thing. There were a few giveaways though.

It did not mention my name (and it should) the base domain to the email was .ug.....yep you guessed it...Uganda!

The email also contains a trojan that my AV picked up - JS/Wonka.

If you get one of these, send it on to spoof@paypal.com with an explanation.

I am becoming a little concerned about PayPal's security. I seem to receive a handful of these spoof messages shortly after each PayPal transaction. This implies that those responsible for the spoofs have some way of tracking my account activity.

Re: THIS IS A SCAM I REPORTED TO EBAY

it's easy enough to check such messages. Don't click on the link, it probably hides a completely different url underneath

Open a new browser window, and type the paypal url in yourself, and log into paypal. Any official message from paypal will be in your message box once you have logged into the paypal site

Re: THIS IS A SCAM I REPORTED TO EBAY

No reputable organisation will ask you to verify or re-register your personal info via a link in an email, and the only safe thing is to regard ANY email which include a link to 'verify' your personal details as being a scam.

It only takes moments to log in via the normal home page of the organisation concerned to double check.

I have had funds 'frozen' or 'seized' pending investigation by at least 4 American Banks that I have never heard of, been suspended twice by my ISP, once by another ISP I have never used, and my EBay account is suspended around every 6 weeks, though I am never unable to use it, and am apparently going to be given around 30 million quid by Nigerian Bankers - if....

I ALWAYS report receipt of any such approaches to the organisation concerned. This gives them a chance to come back if there is actually a problem. There never is....

Re: THIS IS A SCAM I REPORTED TO EBAY

It's dead simple. Any e-mail I ever receive from any source asking for anything at all remotely private gets instantly deleted. I mean, if the people who are important in your life really want to contact you there are other ways. And the important stuff still arrives through the post or via the phone.
