Pay & Display Parking at Hartlepool Marina

After lots of threats following a spat between our Mayor and a private developer (Mandale). Yeserday morning Mandale uncovered parking meters in the north car park, notices inform us that between 6am and 6pm you have to pay to park. The first half hour is free thence 50p an hour or £3 all day.
The marina management who unlike other businesses in the area have been very noticeable by not ! protesting on behalf of bertholders, have issued 11 permits (expiry date mid Feb) to liveaboards a further 40 permits are available for the 500 bertholders, these 40 permits have to be handed in each evening otherwise a fine will be levied. Presumeably if staying aboard you have to be re-issued at 6am or if sailing away for a few days have to locate your car elsewhere.
Please Forum members does anyone have experience of a similar situation or any suggestions for action apart from the obvious go elsewhere vadalism and etc.etc.
Anyone contemplating a berth at Hartlepool marina please inquire about parking charges,
any disdain shown and possible loss of business may just prompt a very lethargic management into positive action.

We can pay a few pounds a day to park at Mylor yacht harbour, but there is an annual permit available through local yacht clubs which can work out much cheaper over the season.
 
I thought I read somewhere recently that this had been resolved.

I can't imagine the business around the car park will be too happy about it. A lot of old folk drive down there, as well as coaches of disabled kids, and they potter about the marina all day, using the cafes, book shop, fish and chip shop etc, and watching the boats come and go. Also, a lot of boat sales happen when people just wandering around with nothing better to do, just happen to look in the broker's window and discover that owning a boat isn't the preserve of the rich.

As for berth holders, the permit system just sounds rediculous.

Private developers can't issue fines and they can't impose penalties. All they can do is send you an invoice. Some of them think they can clamp you to force payment of outstanding invoices, but that's completely illegal. Best carry a pair of bolt croppers, just in case.
 
Restricted free parking on the south side, however this is always full on weekends and in season, another developer is on this side and already signs for residents parking for those areas that service the flats are in place,the answer to the question is that very soon a long long way away.

I've got to relocate my little Dehler from Rutland Water to the East coast Briney somewhere. This morning Hartlepool was on my list of possibles at 60 miles away. I think I have just crossed it off again. I'm not posh enough anyway judging from what else is there, my wee boat would get laughed at.:mad:

I'l make a note of Seaham, as long as they don't eat Yorkshiremen that far north.

Actually I have been there once in about 1988/89. Unfortunately I was accompanied by a 'sales manager' so I couldn't do my normal wander/explore the seafront.That was when it was 'cool' to nick badges off the front of VW Golfs...my GTi lost a couple around that time....

Had it from the horses mouth last night that steps are being taken to enable parking in the boatyard for those wishing to stay overnight or go sailing, guess its just a case of wait and see.

Hi Kliever,

"the horse", in my view, should be getting a bit hot under the collar about all this and making some noise. Instead he is moving all the junk from the boatyard to park a few cars, so avoiding any confrontation with anybody.

500 birth holders paying #200 per meter, per year. That sounds like a lot of reasons to go and take on some ruthless businessman, (not a developer as he obviously isn't developing anything) and fight him!

Last one out, turn the light off!
