Patio Magic question

From past experience, I am afraid what you say will fall on deaf ears!

I pointed out the environmental damage it could do to marine life some months ago on another thread but nobody cares so long as it is easy to use and keeps their boat clean.

Unless you completely ban all boats of all sizes, we will inevitably do damage to the marine environment - we simply need to take steps to keep it under control. The safety notice for Patio Magic notes that quaternary ammonium is very toxic to marine organisms, but also that it is readily biodegradable. I do agree that we need to take care with application to minimise run-off. I would never spray it - apply by brush in controlled quantities and choose a time when it is not going to get washed off till it has had time to work and then degrade.

I apply Boracol once a year in controlled conditions that minimise the quantity that goes into the water; I apply far more toxic antifouling every year and then put the boat straight back into the water to spread its nasty chemicals all year. We spend most of the year on the boat discharging washing-up detergent, soap, shampoo etc into the water several times per day - I'm pretty sure that the damage done by our annual teak treatment is small in the overall scale of things.
