Patio Magic - for the cheapskates

Patio Magic is 10% benzalkonium chloride and, umm, some alcohol, and.... water.

It's an excellent algaecide, and disinfectant, used amongst other things for animal health, especially foot rot in sheep and cattle. Especially when mixed with copper sulphate :)

You can buy it in powder form from the UK maker in 190kg barrels...

what's wrong with just bunging 'em in the washing machine?

The residual chemicals that soak into the rope / canvas / teak prevent regrowth for up to 12 months. Also no actual scrubbing required, the Patio Magic just clears the growth by itself over the course of a couple or three days. Wahing requires some effort and doesn't protect the surface from re-growth. I'm a fan of Patio Magic!

Ahh, so you didn't allow them to spread about then.

Not quite sure what happened. By the time it got to spin, it all seemed to be on one side of the drum. The poor machine was doing its best Usain Bolt impression across the kitchen floor! Mind you, I can now confirm that 'Ariston and on and on' was a lie. :D

Picked some up today. £8.50 in Wilkinsons. Never tried using this before. Taking bets on wether I'll need new halyards and sheets.......

Might be best putting the rope in a pillow case for washing.
