Is the trip to the West Country taking place over the weekend of 23rd-25th of May?
If so then I will be unable to offer you lot any hospitality in Salcombe as I'll be at the Festival of the Sea at Leith -(whew, lucky escape)!
If you manage to wander up to Kingsbridge, Duet is alongside the quay just before you get to The Crabshell Inn.
Where can I find info. on the Club?

Sailbad - thanks for the offer, I'll let you know when I'm next in the area.

Thanks, I've always wanted a catamaran.
I'd be careful if I was you, re butties. Bloke who has the kiosk is known as Steve Monella to the locals and his wife is called Sally. Hope you are ok!

wouldn't want to fly 2 pennants/burgees would you!

I have to admit that I am hard pushed to get fired up about taking the boat anywhere else when we have Poole. It was somewhat different issue after 5 years on the Medway..........
They are however an excellent group to learn with and explore in company.

The ethos of the club is spot on, but the blurb is a bit off putting. "For boats capable of 25 knots or more", or something like that. I do like to travel at a slower pace at times, honest! The safety factor and inspired confindence can only be a good thing. Over the years I taught myself to become somewhat self sufficient, though you never stop learning in this pastime. You never know though, if a cross channel trip was on the cards. Would like to do that again, but not alone this time.

Poole is a boating haven, or should that be heavan. I've found other spots round the coast that are equally interesting. The Walton backwaters, Arthur Ransome didn't do the place justice.

hmmm - will check the 25 knots bit! Generally they are looking to ensure that the party can stay together rather than necessarily travel flat out! Baby Fletcher's can do 25 knots but not in a solent chop.
BTW are you hinting at a trip to Alderney later in the year?

The blurb says "capable of cruising at 20 knots in good weather and sea conditions." - nothing about always travelling at this speed.

Simply means that the club isn't suitable for displacement boats - nothing against them, but organising longer trips with boats in the fleet that travel at 6knts would be a logistical nightmare.

Hows your diary looking for Friday night now? Do I need to pack another case of rum or will 6 bottles do until the Saturday night?

Yes, the programme of events becomes more ambitious every year - a very healthy East Coast contingent means a lot more events in that neck of the woods these days, as well as all the South Coast events, and more long distance trips to West Country, France etc. Great way for small boats to do the long trips in company.

I'll probably make a decision on Friday night on the day, can never tell what time I'm going to get away from work.

Alderney would be on the cards, but I have to look at the weather very closely for it in my boat, 21 feet shrinks the further you go! I have to have everything primed and ready then go when there's a weather window for a couple of days duration.

Lets put it this way, its on my 'wish list' for this year. Just got to try and get it onto the other halfs list as well. I haven't played the VAT free shopping trump card yet, but I think that might just swing it if we have a period of settled weather as well.

A long weekend in the channel islands would be an excellent way to waste a bit of time. A couple of good eateries a bottle of wine or two, just what the doctor would order.

I can only hope!

I did speak to a chap on the phone, he seemed a little negative when I described my boat/engine set up. Did'nt seem to think it was suitable. My flat ot top end pushes the low 30's and I tend to find the "sweet" spot for any cruises over a couple of hours duration. Purely for economy.

I thought my power to wieght ratio was quiet good and the Tremlett is an easily driven hull.

I can't see why you'd have any problems.

There are occasions where we'll have a blast along at 30 ish, just for fun, but most cruising is done in low 20's, especially on longer trips.

Different boats travel at different economical speeds, but we usually stop to allow all to group back together at intervals, just to make sure everyone stays in contact and the slowest boats aren't left behind.
