I have just removed about 30 years of antifoul by scrapping. The green gelshield looks fine apart from a few fairly small places where I can see the gelcoat (no bigger than a 5p piece) I dont really want to buy a litre of gelshield just to patch these. Has anyone ay suggestions of what I would use instead, does anyone produce patch kits for this? Also not sure what the difference is between gelshield and any other epoxy primer other than it is for the treatment of osmosis.?

As I understand it Gelshield is an epoxy based coating that is applied to the gelcoat to help seal it against water ingress, to help to prevent the development of osmotic blisters and the chemical breakdown of the grp laminate.

That being the case, I'd be happy to repair any damaged areas of gelshield with a good quality epoxy resin, such as SP106. Abrade, clean, dry and paint on one or two coats.

If you do bite the bullet and buy a can, the two parts keep well in the tin. I had the same problem and still have some from 15 years ago, which I use now and again. Grey and green are the same stuff. Give it three to five coats.
You might find a part used tin at a boat jumble?

Jeez, this is protection of the hull we're talking about, not a dab of grot stain on a council house porch !

Use the right stuff...
