Hi - any thoughts on how I can patch a penny sized rust hole in the bottom of one of my (much prized) Origo stove liquid fuel container/burners?
I think it's stainless steel... it's liquid fuel so the patch needs to be watertight... it probably gets reasonably hot too...
Thanks!

Blimey - just looked at replacement cost for one .... about $100 a piece + shipping ..

Just a comment - stainless should not rust ... so I would check carefully for why you have a hole ? Also whether the metal surrounding the hole is thinned.

I think its going to be hard to patch as to get the resin based material to adhere and seal requires a totally clean and fuel free surface. Metal is probably too thin to weld a patch ...

Not being funny - but you are talking about an item that contains flammable fluid.

With the correct flux it is possible to hard solder stainless steel. Possibly an air conditioning or refrigeration technician would be able to do it. Or a model engineering hobbyist.
In fact if the tank stays below say 200C, which I imagine it does, a soft solder would work since modern tin/silver alloys melt at about 265C. Fairly evil flux required.
All in all though it's probably best to buy a new one!

Many years ago I found that the bottom of both tanks on my stove were developing pin holes. I lightly abraded the bottom and sides and sheathed them with glass tissue and epoxy. They were still showing no sign of failing when I sold the boat about five years later.

These used to be available in any hardware shop

Are new Origo stoves still available in the UK? Dometic, the US supplier, discontinued them about a year ago and the old stock is gone. Quite a few sailors are desprate for spare parts.
It seems not. I bought mine from a mail-order chandler in Germany a couple of years ago but they are now out of stock.
