Listening to the Condor leaving today they informed Jersey Radio they had 195 passengers and 1 baby on board, made me wonder - at what age does a baby becaome a passenger?
In the event of having to call for help do I say I have 3 people on board, or 2 person plus 1. My daughter is 8 so is she a plus 1 or a person?

I would class a baby as one requiring a cot or full child seat type thing, A child would be under say 12, and a youth up to about 16, IMHO

Surprised that there is no standard designation for age (=ability to help themselves) for rescue purposes. They obviously need to know whether there are babies /children/elderly onboard as their method of rescue would undoubtedly be different

If I remember my VHF training aright, you do not differentiate between adults and children when giving a distress call, it's just 'X persons on board'...

How about :-
Baby = one that hasnt leant to walk
Toddler = one that can "just"
Child = School age 5 up to 12
Teenager = 13 to 19
Adult = 20 to 61
Elderley = 62 onwards

Now if you have an emergency - it may be a be a bit long winded /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif - esp if you have a "Ferry" load on board

You are right, when doing a mayday call you need to give the total number of bodys they have to find, but you can say 2 of which are children.
I.E. 6 persons on board, 2 of which are children!
