hi
i have a13 mtr steel motor boat home completed fuel 4000 ltrs water 1000 ltrs
single engine at present in lagos i would be interested in hearing from any one with similar vessel we are intending to cruise the med next year .
however we should like some info on suitable places to re fuel also a suitable base for next winter we cruise at 7 knots fuel consumption 10 ltr hr
yours geoff

Sounds like you have ample range to get around. Fuel wise at present the cheapest I have purchased duty free is in Malta at 0.23Euros per litre, other wise for duty paid its also Malta at 0.62Euros followed by Italy at 0.98Euros per litre.
France was selling at 1.02, the cheapest I found there.
As regards regulations, whatever your flag, if you are leaving an EU country for one outside EU you are entitled to duty free the same goes when you are leaving those outside to any where else.

Going into the smallest most out of the way places helps. But look around.

Paper work can be a hassle but in most places in Italy the fuel station can do it for you, the same in Malta. In France an agent will be beneficial and could still be worthwhile.

Is diesel we are talking about?

If so, In Italy the duty paid price is between 0,88 and 0,89.
0,98 seems a sort of robbery, though probably they can ask that price in those areas where no alternatives are within easy reach.
Duty free price is 0,37. Requires some paperwork, but a price reduction of almost 60% is worth the hassle.

thanks fo help very interesting especilly about not paying duty when your leaving have you any other helpfull hints for a motorboat stabilising?i have fitted stopper floppers on previous boat but due to the number of fishing nets pots etc that we have incountered.
my wife has said no so we now use a stedying sail not very good but better than nothing regards geoff

Hi Geoff!

I guess that Gib must be your first stop for fuel which I believe is very economic at present I also understand that the bay of Rosas is an acceptable base for cruising the western Med.

Kind regards

Rob
