where the best place to depart from to take the tide to the scilly isles.

Falmouth / penz / Newlyn / Mousehole. Not looked at tides but i assume you have to lock out of penz and wait for the tide for a few hours.

Falmouth is as good any, also well protected if you need to wait for a weather window.

Pz is ok and better now there are waiting buoys outside. So, as you say, you can lurk in the harbour and then go when the weather looks right.
The anchorage outside Mousehole is a good spot as well, tho a much frequented passage by early morning fishermen.

As you mention Mousehole I assume you can take the ground ok so you could add St Michaels Mt to your list.

I can't check my logs as they are on the boat but I seem to recall that leaving Mount's Bay a bit before HW the tides worked ok (for a slowish passage).

On the occasion I departed from Helford IIRC the tides out to Lands End didn't work very well after rounding the Lizard at slack water.

For a start off, make this the last time you call them the Scilly Isles. The natives really don't like it. Isles of Scilly or Scillies is fine.

We use Newlyn as sheltered and all tide access as well as closer to Scilly. All worth visiting as well as anchorages around Mounts Bay.

No, the deepwater achorage between the harbour and the island. As you say St Michaels Mt is another option, last time I was there I picked up a holding buoy which was very handy.

And a very nice spot it is too.

Planning on using it on our way down towards end of June.

I made some notes on anchoring at St Michaels Mount for the WCC web site, but I don't think they are still there, so here is a link

Of course as your anchoring if the wind is in the right direction there is always Lamorna (however any bays west of Tater Du usually have too much ground swell - not to mention cables at Porthcurno)

Dunno. I gave up running their website a while back. I did get the permission of those who contributed the anchorages to publish them if WCC ever decided not to, so I think I might.
