Passage Planning - love it or hate it?

Love passage planning, all winter we spend hours looking at charts, almanacs, tide takes and plan the perfect route. Then the day before we're due to go we say - nah, let's go somewhere else :D

Not much thought or planning goes into the new route. Slovenly navigators that's what we are.

Passage Planning - love it or hate it?

Neither - I don't do it; at least not in the formal way that now seems to be thought necessary.

I do have a destination I hope to reach, and I get a weather forecast and check the tidal data. Then off we go.

If conditions change for the worse, or we get bored, we go somewhere else. If things are going well we might get further on.

Often we will notice somewhere on the chart that looks interesting so we divert and have a look, and maybe stay there a while.
