passage planning advice - Largs to Bangor - weekend trip

OK we're only looking for a pub and some grub and maybe some craic but its mainly for the sailing. Looking at the tides ballycastle will work for me so i'm thinking
Lamlash tommorrow night,
Ballycastle, early start Friday
Campletown or Carradale leaving Saturday afternoon from Ballycastle
Home Sunday

Glenarm is first diversion of choice

All plans are flexible

Sounds like a better plan. If you don't know Ballycastle the main street with most pubs is about a 10 min walk from the marina and is not obvious to find ( to me anyway) head out the marina go left to the corner with the big hotel and tun right keep walking straight on for about half a mile.

So we went..

It was beautiful night Thursday we were enjoying the trip so much we just carried on to Campbeltown and got in at 4am.

Forecast was iffy for Sunday so we rethought and went for Glenarm as it left us more options to escape. So we left at 10 to Glenarm.

Lovely crossing going though wind died and we motored the last 2 hours.

There are two pubs, re food, the second one along will order you from the local takeaway menu from the local chinese have it delivered and serve it you while you drink as long as your drinking in their pub and at no more than the takeaway price!

Ran north on Saturday aiming for Lamlash with a deepening low and gale forecast and came across horrible seas from the SE on the Friday night. The forecast SW didn't fill in. We didn't have fuel to go all the way home against big seas so diverted to Campbeltown. We ended up sitting out the gale there and coming home this morning.

Great sail today we did Campbeltown Largs in 6 and a half hours motor sailing the Kilbrannan sound into a NW then freeing sheets at Lochranza. It was worth waiting as I believe yesterday was indeed foul and we had a great day today.

Campbeltown is much better than any of you led me to believe, Good fish and chips and the done up Royal is ok. They could do with a proper shower block.

We sat out a F8 NW gale on the pontoon without issue

Oh and the fuel man came out on a Sunday and lent me gerry cans to fill up so i could get away on Monday. Its not the pearl of the Clyde but I'll definately go back there.

Two firsts for me - a decent night passage and a trip to Northern Ireland so I'm well happy :)
