Having been alerted on the forum to these on special offer from Lidl today, I just bought one. Haven't tried it on the antifoul yet, but it's just done a super job of getting old ceramic tile cement off the shower room floor at home! At £14.99 it's already paid for itself today, even if it doesn't get used on the boat. No tungsten blade included, but someone else commented that the Bosch tools may fit. The included blades sharpen-up well and might even do the job...don't know. If you want one get to Lidl soon.
 
Shouldent have ceramic tile adhesive on the floor.
Floor tiles should be porcelain, and a floor tile adhesive, such as porcelflex, should be be used.

That's housebuilders for you!! Doing the job properly now (myself). The wash basin was stuck onto the wall with adhesive...not even bolted on...would you believe it!! The skirting board is MDF not real wood (now a soggy mess). Who in their right mind puts a wooden skirting board in a tiled shower room anway?? That's coming off. The place is only 5 years old, so this is all original build, not some poor DIY job. If it was a boat we'd have messages all over the forum, but where do you complain publicly about the crap quality of the British housebuilding industry?? Grrr....
 
I got one today and am poised to get to the boat when a bit dry to try it . I think the flat end scraper- not sharp will be best as it shouldn't damage gel coat and just jar off the loose stuff.

For this job a got a battery powered air filtered protective hood from Axminster Tools, which is excellant - no steaming up comfortable to wear with cool filtered air passing over your face. Not cheap but with the nasties of antifouling blowing around worth every penny.
 
Probably won't have a chance to try mine on the hull until well into next week, so if you get there first let us know how you get on. The hood sounds good. I'll have a look at that!
 
Daft question- I hope

With a blade inserted and the thing switched on should the blade oscillate back and forth? I just tried mine and although the motor runs fine the blade doesn't move until you put some backwards load on to it. Is this normal?

Yes that is the way it should work (Elf 'n saefty?) according to the instructions that came with the Aldi version.

Thank you. I just tried it on the door to the office which needs to be repainted. My next query will be how to repair the surface damage on plywood caused by my new scraper!

Yes, the blade doesn't move until you apply a pressure. The harder you push the more it moves it seems (to a certain point). The angle is also quite important and if too steep may well damage the substrate.
 
I've been to the boat this afternoon to try the Lidl power scaper.

My old antifouling must be 1-2 mm thick mostly and the scraper works a dream. I would give it 10/10.
Maybe in the few places where there was only a single cote from recent years the scraper had little to get its edge into and its use was less dramatic.


I used the blade that was not sharp just a flat edge and there was no mark on the underlying gel coat. I used the Axminster Trend airshield respirator which made the job safe and comfortable.
A good day or two should get all the underside ready for a primer coat.
