There was a Parker 30 in this years Jester Azores Challenge. Can anyone tell me where it is from? I can only find a Parker 31 or a Parker 275.
See here: http://sailboatdata.com/firstpage.asp
or here: http://www.udkik.dk/app/yylist.jsp?boattype=parker&loafrom=&loato=&fm=m&widthfrom=&widthto=

If anyone knows of the Parker 30, is it a lifting keel like the rest of them? And in what country where they manufactured?

It is uk made, the boat in question is actually a Parker 31...

More info on the Parker range here:

Hope this helps!

Boat builders often put figures behind names, it does not always mean that the number is the length of the boat; it is often to fool silly people into thinking they have a bigger boat and to part with more money. I had a Parker superseal which is 26ft, I had it alongside a Parker 275 and they looked the same length. The hulls, decks, rig etc on the Parker 275 and the 285 are EXACTLY the same - yet the uninitiated would think 285 denotes a bigger boat. It is recognised that the rebranding as 285 was a marketing ploy.

Parker 31's might suggest 31ft, but it is well documented that their Length on Deck is 30ft and Muffin has been professionally measured and is within the 20-30ft Jester measurement

I am now really confused. Because if you look here:
Parker 31

Price Guide

£30,000 to £38,000
Builder

Parker Yachts Ltd, Lincolnshire.
LOA 31' 0"

LWL 28' 3"
Beam 10' 0"
Rig Fractional sloop

The Parker 31 is an unusual high performance lift-keel yacht with excellent accommodation, including over six feet headroom. The wing keel is over four feet wide, and retracts to allow drying out in 2' of water. Like all Parker lift-keel yachts, they command higher prices than you would expect compared to similar sized non-lift-keel yachts
This can be found here: http://www.yachtsnet.co.uk/archives/parker-31/parker-31.htm

And Sailboat data records:

Hull Type: Drop Keel Rig Type: Fractional Sloop
LOA: 31.00' / 9.45m LWL: 28.25' / 8.61m
Beam: 10.00' / 3.05m Listed SA: 448 ft2 / 41.62 m2
Draft (max.) 6.00' / 1.83m Draft (min.) 2.00' / 0.61m

To be found here: http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=4059

So is a Parker 30 less than 30' or 31'? It can't be both.

It's a Parker 31. Parker Yachts never manufactured a Parker 30 - it was (still is) a Parker 31. Who cares whether it measures just above or below the 30 foot limit, it's still a worthy Jester Challenger - as has been seen in the history of the JC, size is no guarantee of success. All credit to John for sailing hard in difficult conditions and getting his Parker 31 across the finish line.

I'm not sure John sails hard. I do know he likes laying down with his eyes closed a lot. He says he feels the motion of the boat, he is like a Jedi knight of sailing you know! On the subject of motions he also spends far too long sitting down in the heads :)

Even with all this odd( some might say eccentric) behaviour he still sailed a blinder; the man is a legend. I'd go to sea with him again any time, just not in his boats as they all tend to be a bit messy.

No need for confusion. Length on deck is 30', Length overall 31'. That suggests the transom slopes back by a foot, which is the modern fashion. My own boat is a T23+ , which is very like the wooden T23 but with the waterline extended. Although it gives a longer waterline and cleaner delivery, as far as deck space and accomodation below is concerned, it is still a 1960's 23 footer.
