The parasail recieved a good workout during the RTIR this weekend.
The "Kite with a hole" worked very well. During the run back from Bembridge to the finish we managed to keep it filling in winds down to 3.5KTs app. with the aid of some extra light (6mm) lines.
When ever the wind is behind the beam I would recomend this sail.

spotted

Think it was you, with the blue and white parasail kite ?

Did you get the antifouling off your bow and the bottom of the kite when you ran over it going down towards the Needles ? You had your mainsail down at the time.

Looks a nice bit of kit when it's up. does the parasail raise and lower to give you lift then ?

Yes, blue and white that was us.

As to the anti-foul, that was us trying to sail with no wind at all ....

The parafoil is not adjustable but gives a lot of lift.

yup it was rather a drift down to the needles untill the wind finally filled in off yarmouth. you were on our port side a couple of boats lenghts away stealing what wind there was.

Glad you had a good race. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Brave man.

I thought operating rule No. 1 for a parasail was "do not use in congested waters".

A bit like this one....

did look good - you passed us 50m short of line. You seemed to be trailing the foot in the water at times? We wondered if it was too big for the boat but as we hadnt played with one were not sure.

The sails come in two sizes for a given size of boat, with Mister rhino being a heavy boat we have the larger size which adds about 10m2 to the sail area. Below about 6kts app the sail does tend to droop, however by the end of the race, we had worked out the way to deal with this was to have two crew on the rail forward acting as human tweakers, pulling the foot of the sail onto the deck. This also had the advantage of acting as a deck seal.
Pretty or not, no one got past us from the ledge bouy to the finish and a good few tried..
On the sunday we went out again. With 10 knots app we were making 6.5 on a reach under kite alone.
Unlike a conventional kite, once the wind gets up the sail can be set and will look after it's self, the upper limit for the parasail on Rhino is 35-40kts.
