A local timberyard has reccomended paranah (spelling?) pine as an alternative to pitch pine for replacement of a short length of plank, which is well above the waterline.
Ive never come across this species of timber before, and was wondering if anbody had any thoughts or advice on on its suitability.
Thanks in advance!

Completely unsuitable: not durable.

Available in wide boards, knot free, and reasonably dimensionally stable.

But no use at all in boat building.

Get some BCP ("British Colombian Pine", aka Douglas Fir) and use that.

Many Thanks, gentlemen, for the speedy and concise replies. What a cracking resource this forum is for answers to questions like this!

Repetition, I know, but worth adding another vote against. Parana pine available in wide boards so very useful for making the treads on stairs. But never used outside by building trade. Surprised therefore that boatyard recommend it
