I have a Gray Marine Express 4-140 engine with a Paragon gearbox which has a 2:1 reduction bolted at the back. I want to have a direct drive. . .is it possible just to haul off the reduction gear and replace the bevel gear of the shaft with the drive flange . It's all new to me I'm afraid. Any suggestions VERY gratefully accepted.

Reduction gears are there for a reason. to reduce the RPM of the prop. The slow and larger , the more efficient. So why would you want to double the speed of the prop?

Thanks for replying. . . the reason is simple. . .the boat originally was direct. . .It had no engine , then I found one with the reduction. . . . .But this is no use to me .
