Cutting out some of my own gaskets from paper bought on the internet. Oil and water resistant Flexoid brand, so my question is that in the back of my mind I seem to recall that some people soak the gaskets in oil prior to fitting to stop salt deposits forming around the edge.
Would like to know what others do.
Thanks.

I like to wipe a thin smear of grease over both sides of paper gaskets - but it didn't stop the salt deposits when I refitted some cooling water flanges to my Bukh.

I sometimes glue the gasket to one face with hylomar, then grease the other face.
I think this gives a sporting chance of it coming apart in an orderly fashion.
