Pantaenius Insurance

GJW

As far south as Breast, UK coastal waters, including single handed (with a higher night hours excess).

I am sure Saga's computer got it very, very wrong.

Totally agree. Been with GJW for many years now. Only one claim after pontoons broke up in Camaret last winter and claim settled promptly with no fuss. They give me extended cover as far south as La Gironde at no extra cost.
With Navigators for years before that and premium seemed to jump every year despite never having had a claim.

+1 for Pants

Last year I damaged a spreader on an overhanging Repsol fuel pontoon sign at Sotogrande. I was lucky to get a rigging pro to go up the mast the next morning and give a damage assessment by 11:00am monday morning. I got quotes for the parts by 4pm that day and a reply from Pants by 10:30am on Tuesday morning. The staff on the phone were great and communicated well throughout. In total they replaced the both spreaders, through mast fitting, p/s inner and outer stays, turnbuckles and the cost of the lift and of course the survey.

A month or so later I got the renewal quote and it was the same as the previous year! I'm a very happy customer.

Some people like to knock Pantaenius but the test of any insurer is when a claim arrives. They have proved to be terrific.

I got the side effects of a lightning strike in November resulting in significant electrical damage. What with Chriistmas etc it took a while getting estimates and surveys sorted. I received the emailed estimate at 14.15 last Thursday and forwarded it onto Pantaenius. I followed up with a phone call at 16.00. A few questions and by 16.30 I had written approval to go ahead. The electrical engineers wanted 75% up front, that arrived in their bank this morning.

Difficult to imagine anything Pants could have done to improve the service, absolutely first class. I could go cheaper elsewhere but the proof of the pudding.........
Needs to be told.

Bit of thread revival, but still on-topic I think (hope).

Did Pantaenius replace your electronics with new?

I've just had the renewal notice through from them and they're saying electronics are only covered 'new for old' for two years, which seems very short. It's not too much of a problem in the short-term as I only started splashing out on electronics last spring, so it'll only become a problem towards the end of the annual period if I renew with them this year, but I really don't want them to be considered old after only 24 months.

Simple answer is Yes they did. It whole thing was finally finished yesterday and they have been hugely supportive. Couldn't have asked for better.

Also settled yesterday for me, very happy with how whole process was dealt with and especially the helpfulness and genuine care of their claims handler, Karl, who couldn't have done more.

I've never seen anybody knock Pantaenius here, they are renowned for their fast no quibble pay out.

As for Pantaneius, always seems expensive to me, okay I appreciate you pay for a quality product but the need to check the boat every 28 days, as highlighted here, would be a deal breaker for me as I would be leaving the boat abroad in a marina for the winter

I appreciate it may be that third party inspections would be okay but it sounds like it is more than checking mooring ropes. I would be concerned about leaving it in the hands of the marina to do this to the satisfaction of Pantaneius. Scenario is the boat is damaged in some way over the winter, then try to find the details and paperwork of when it was last checked, who by and what was checked. Then going to Pantaneius and fighting my case that some one competent checked it. For me there would be too much wriggle room for an insurance company not to pay out. Who would be liable if the marina had not checked it, or more likely had not recorded the check correctly.

We received our Panaenius renewal yesterday and they highlighted that the following exclusion has been removed.
“Loss or damage that is attributable to your failure to make reasonable arrangements for the regular inspection and safe keeping of the yacht when not in use for periods exceeding 28 days”

They are more expensive, but not way over the top. This year's quote comes out at just over 0.6% of the insured value, but I get single-handing, racing and their reputation for settlement for that.

I don't have the requirement to leave the boat for 28 days.

Have you explained your issue and asked if they have a solution?

Small plug for Y Yacht insurance. Full consequential cover the same as pants. A bit cheaper as their overheads are lower, a surprising number of us on the forum are customers.

Yes, but not the same level of cover when it comes to singlehanded sailing.
When I checked with Y last year, singlehanded cover was limited to daylight hours and to max 18 hours n a day.
Not aware that this has changed.

Everyone will get a different reply regarding single-handing, even from the same insurers - they look at the single-hander as well as the boat.

Trouble is you have to check annually that they haven't brought in more restrictions - mine this year offers me cover for "planned passages not exceeding 24 hours", no change in excess, no mention of darkness (you can get in terrible trouble about which dawn or dusk is being quoted) and still 0.06% of insured value, before NCD.
