Received a call in February from Pantaenius:

"...... we're just producing your renewal premium and are calling about the problems with your bent mast"

They had read the ybw forums around June/July last year when I was talking about the mast being about an inch out of true, thus making the in mast furling a bit difficult to unfurl.

I may have "inadvertently" used the word "bent", and they thought the worst, but were satisfied with my expplanation during the call.

Must say I felt a bit cheesed off that attempts here to fix things, and do the right thing, might result in an insurance issue if you say the wrong thing.

Walls have ears as they say. I know there are some "interesting" people on here, or should I say "interested" people! I've seen posts on here where people tell us all what their next tax dodge is going to be and other things they really shouldn't reveal.

Hmm very interesting.
Do you think they employ someone to scan the forums and work out who is insured with them.
I am insured with them and dont like the idea of being spied on.......... is it time to put fictitious boat names and locations etc............. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They did the same to me, when mentioned I didnt always lock my doors, on here.
Next thing is an E mail from them, saying my theft insurance would be void, unless I locked my boat up all the time! Needless to say, I now lock the boat all the time and in fact have even fitted new door locks! I have fitted a remote controlled passerelle winch as well! I dont want to fall foul of a claim, just in case!
But you're right about "walls having ears"!!
"careless talk costs, bigger premiums" to coin a phrase!!

Those of us who live in this land of freedom in the 21st century have to get used to being spied on. I pass 45 CCTV cameras on a five-minute walk on the way to work - and those are just the ones that I've noticed.

I was contacted by them a year or two back after I had been openly critical of them on here. They were interested in the reasons for my criticisms and indicated that they would take them on board when I explained them.

Whilst concern at the potential for Big Brother is an immediate reaction, There is another side here, that they may want to keep abreast of comments about their company and deal with them before they become issues. We are always complaining about lack of response by some companies, this is a reasonable way for them to gather data and be able to stay ahead of others - assuming of course that this is what they are doing

However, seriously, I would assume that they are probably going to be looking at this thread, and I would suggest to them, that just reading these posts is one step, but the next one is an active participation in here when people do have insurance queries, and if that doesn't raise their profile I dont know what would!!

Quote They did the same to me, when mentioned I didnt always lock my doors, on here.

Much sympathy here.
I always leave the door open and stick a note on the gate to say please help yourself.......oh and by the way when my premiums go up cos you've claimed, I really wont blame you for being naive etc....yeah right

I didn't vote for it...however, having recently had the pleasure of meeting the arrogant and the ignorant in the form of U.S. immigration I have to say it could be worse (and will probably become so)

It's YOUR choice to give your secrets to the world via this medium. The fact that your insurer is aware of shortcomings, should alert alert you to the fact that every thug and robber in the area is as well.....

I found Pants very swift to respond to my queries, their staff are very polite and helpful. They have been very understanding to my needs, in fact I would consider them to be all round 'good eggs'.

Is that enough for a 10% discount next year please?

Tony

P.S. I am still awaiting the Certificate of Insurance from last months renewal, would you mind posting it to me please?

Its a public forum and you posted something under your own name. To my mind that means you're not bothered who reads it and can hardly complain if someone acts on what you have said. Dont like it then use a pseudonym.

Legally, an insurance contract is one of "ultima fides" which means you have a legal obligation to tell them of anything that might in any way affect the risk they are taking on - fail to do so and the contract can be voided. So even using a pseudonym, you should have told them.

Comments on thei thread about spying are simply silly.

Well if they do lurk, can't be a bad thing to keep in touch with general opinion! but asked for a quote @ LIBS and still havn't had one...so I'll be staying with GJW! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Quote. Menwit Hill (US D of D) in Yorkshire already eavesdrops on all your Mobile calls!
No no..you missunderstand Menwith Hill..they are there so that when I am in difficulties and miles off shore and the SSB won't work, I can switch on my mobile and they will be able to locate me and point the rescue plane in my direction...or is that Fylingdales?
