Panel mount fuse holder sought

Looking for a glass fuse holder to put into a plywood panel. Most are too short in body length, but there are some which take surface screws like this one from Jaycar:

However, this one is too big (it's 5AG when 2AG or 3AG would suit me). Any idea if anyone does these for the 20mm or 1 1/4" fuses?

No, that won't work - I have about 10 various holders including this one. It won't fit a plywood panel of 12mm thickness.

OR 'Screw' the holder into the plywood with a slightly undersize hole? But I think the above idea of using a hole cutter or flat bit would be much neater but I think you'd have to use a pillar drill to get an accurate depth(but practice on a piece of scrap material first!)
 
Rebate the back of the hole so the panel is thinner. You could do it with a router a large drill would probably make a mess :eek:

I didn't not search through all 650+ fuses but all these are will take a fuse longer that 1" (25mm) and although they look the same, the manufacturers are different in case one supplier's fuse is out of stock.
 
Unfortunately none of the filtering options give panel thickness - you have to go to the spec online to check (and the one's I've looked at from David's RS list just sent are all for thinner panels - e.g. 8mm).

I have a car inline holder there at present - as Nigel suggests - but it will end up behind the panel and difficult to access if it blows (at night, bouncing about ...).

I will presume that everyone has the same problem in locating the item as I have had and may just go with thinning the plywood at the hole to accept one of the fuse holders I already have.
 
I doubt you will find what you want. Typically panels are made from aluminium sheet, which will take all the options shown so far. If you made such a panel, you'd have to drill clearnace holes in the ply behind each opening - the same effect as counterboring the rear face, but likely to grip the fuse holder better. Front access is no use if the fuse holder spins as you try to unscrew the cap.

Incidentally, it is worth opening up the holders as a routine maintenance schedule, as the fuses can get stuck and are very difficult to extract when this happens. Regular movement seems to prevent them sticking.

I added a cigarette lighter power socket and the fuse is only to protect that, not to make a whole new panel.

Unless you have drilled the hole for the fuseholder, for a cigar socket, you can put an inline blade fuse holder on the positive side, either close to the cigar holder if convenient or else where the +ve supply connects to the loom or battery. Most car accessory shops sell them for a couple of quid. you probably need a 15 amp blade fuse
