Pancake Mix.

Ah, my daughters favourite breakfast. Cooking them is fairly straight forward process with some people beeing apprehensive at the tossing stage. I cant see you having any difficulty.
Ah, you managed to make a joke.

It reminds me of Dr Johnson's remark about the dog walking on its hind legs:

"It is not done well, but but you are surprised to find it done at all"

Anyway, a good try. Go and tell Mummy. She'll be pleased. She might even let you try on her clothes.

A "pancake mix" that only requires the addition of milk and eggs is called a bag of flour.

Anyone who buys Aunt Bessie's is being robbed.

4oz flour.
½ pint milk.
1 egg.
salt and or sugar to taste.

How Aunt Bessie gets away with that scam I can't imagine, any more than I can imagine how anyone falls for it!

Aren't they something to do with Lent? Or am I confusing that with lean-too?

Mike.

The word shrove is a form of the English word shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by way of Confession and doing penance. Thus Shrove Tuesday was named after the custom of Christians to be "shriven" before the start of Lent.
But Tuesday became known as Shrove Tuesday, this was when the eggs, butter and fat was used to ensure it was all gone for Lenten season. ... The traditional of celebrating Shrove Tuesday and eating pancakes began because people wanted to use up the tempting food that they were giving up for Lent.

I thought shrove Tuesday had something to do with the local women’s auxiliary in some English town poisoning the local lord and Master’s dinner and not the pancakes they made for their own men folk
The successful revolutionary ploy being celebrated on shrove Tuesday ever since.

Anywho I ussualy by Aunt Jemimas complete pack to which I just add water. And real Maple Syrup. Works for my culinary skills.

Or preferably, I just go to a nice French cafe and order a crepe.

I'd still rather go to a Dutch pancake house, it's one of the few culinary delights in traditional Dutch cuisine, along with Volendaam smoked ealS, Oude Boorenkaas cheese, and Boorenkool met worst.

Dutch pannekeuken houses are quite genteel establishments, but they have some fairly subversive toppings. I agree that eating out is not something one usually looks forward to in Dutchland. Their beer has come on quite a lot recently, and a glass of Texel beer would wash down a pancake well.

To be honest I think the drinkability of Dutch beer has declined over the years, Grolsh is still worth drinking, but Amstel and Heineken seem to have lost it. As the the rubbish now sold in the U.K. masquerading as Amstel and Heineken the less said the better. You can't make Amstel in the U.K. our water doesn't have the brackish taste of Amsterdam water.

Hmmm. I suspect 'Aunt' Bessie's pancakes weren't the main point of attraction then...
...or is 'pancakes' a euphemism for something far more hideous...?
