Paloma\'s packed up!

Can't blame it, it's quite old. Now the question is, do I try to get it repaired or go for something else? My concern is that as it isn't flued, it might fail the BSS and I don't want to spend money on it or another of the same if that's going to happen. Unfortunately I'm restricted as I can't fit a vertical flue where it's got to be. I haven't found a more modern type which are flued horizontally from the left. As a liveaboard, I need it for showers too. Anybody know anything about the sealed units you can put under flloors - any ideas/opiniuons/advice gratefully received!

Re: Paloma\'s packed up!

Presumably Palerma is a gas water and space heater. So presuably you are having cold showers poor you.

You might consider a horizontal flue with one or more of those little computer fans at the far coolest end. I have no idea if they will cope with heat but they can move air nicely and run on 12v. olewill

Don't know about the BSS, but the Rinnai has a number of safety features, flow detection, oxygen detection, etc. If you need to go that route, I have an unused one I never fitted to my boat. Decided that a kettle is OK for cruising!

Thanks Parglena - replied via e-mail and in touch with Mike. Thanks also varne27mojo - I've looked at the Rinnai's and they're too big for the hole unfortunately. Still trying to find something with a side flue.

Re: Paloma\'s packed up!

I have just fitted a vaillant water heater, excellent small heater, with 11 LPM flow. can have a horizontal flue. I looked at the rinnai, but not enough flow for me. The old one was also a vaillant, but older model and knackered, gets a lot of use on a liveaboard this size. Thats why I specified a domestic one as replacement.
