The last time I was in Mallorca airport was in July and the queues for passport control were 300m long through boarding gates (I paced it out). Does anyone know if the situation is back to normal?

I have friends coming over to the boat and I need to forewarn them if they are in for a long wait.

Anyone what the cause of it was in the first place?

Last week the queues were long, but fast moving, probably took 20 mins to get through.

Its due to a new eu reg, where anyone arriving from non schengen has to have their passport scanned by computer, previously they just used to eyeball it, or in most cases wave through without even looking. Palma was very bad earlier on in the year,at easter it took 1.5 hours to clear passport control

Went through at the end of August and no issues at all. Hopefully we have seen the back of this nonsense !

Have been through numerous times from May till a few weeks ago. Only once did I wait more than 5 minutes. Even that wasn't too bad at around 15 mins. Just depends how many planes land at once. Also if they are using the electronic gates.

Went thro' last week, no problems for me, they seem to start checking then when the queue builds just wave everyone thro'.... I do wonder about the timing of this new EU reg to check non-schengen passports just when serious negotiations on Brexit started this summer !! ... but maybe I am paranoid, or could it possibly be to show us how it will be in the future.....?

it was in reponse to the recent attacks in european cities and enforced Europe wide on all arrivals from outside the Sch. agreement, irrespective of departure location.

It actually started in Palma early this year... if it's a security measure, it's useless... on UK flights in/out the queue builds until the passage is blocked then they simply wave everyone thro' !!!

They have the API information you have to submit before getting boarding passes, at baggage check in your boarding card is checked against passports, at gate again passports checked against boarding cards, on arrival at destination passport control simply glance at the photo on your passport to see if it matches or more simply you hold the page open in front of you & they wave you thro'..... Terrorists freely travel throughout the Schengen zone with impunity, booking a flight from the UK with the API requirements & checks etc would be very risky for them!

As many/most have proved to be legally resident within the EU,external border checks are not going to prevent them from causing chaos
The idea is to at least attempt to prevent those outside the agreement entering to cause harm. ?

Been through 4 times in the last fortnight. No delays except for one flight which coincided with others but even then just 15 mins through passport control.
