I want to paint the teadmaster on our decks in the spring with Treadmaster Treadcote, the proper stuff from the manufacturer. Has anyone done this? Was it worth it? Was it easy stuff to work with? How long did the newly painted look last? (I will be painting the same colour on BTW)

Thanks
Rob

Did it last year. Treadcote is expensive but I am not aware of any alternative. It is thin and therefore does not clog up the Treadmaster. It is easy to use and looks good for quite a long while. How long depends on your deck use. Certainly after a season my Treadmaster still looks new.
I doubt if it will restore old worn and lifting Treadmaster but it will give new cosmetic life to stuff which although old is not too worn out.
Whether it is worth it depends on your point of view. I think it was but that is me.

I painted my treadmaster twice in the last 8 years with b&q floor paint

happy with the results

wearing away again so will give it another coat
next spring..

I can't believe anyone ever felt treadmaster looked good but the treadmaster on the boat I am currently looking at really is knackered and awful but we don't want to renew the deck until we've had her a season as we will probably rework the layout at that point.

What can be done to 'tart it up' for a year?

I've used it to paint the SMOOTH type of treadmaster on my companionway steps. It went on very easily and the finish looked smart. However it was a disaster! The steps lost all their natural grip and became dangerously slippery.

However the stuff certainly seems to be durable.....removing it with was extremely tedious even with the strongest solvents. (have now recovered with new treadmaster over the old).

Perhaps the slippery problem is not such an issue on diamond-pattern treadmaster?

Please explain why you would want to paint Treadmaster. I have it, and pressure-wash it annually. It's now about 18 years old, and looks perfect.

Don't know if you were addressing anyone in particular, but in my case it was because the top of the companionway steps (original Sadler29) is used extensively as a 'kitchen worktop' and is accordingly scrubbed and bleached regularly (over 25yrs).....hence looking somewhat shabby!

One thing I can confirm is that Treadmaster stuck over existing Treadmaster works fine!

I too pressure wash the treadmaster on the decks but find that I can't get all the stains out of it. Looks OK from a distance, but when it is wet or you are up close you can see stains in the treadmaster - almost like algae or something. Tried scrubbing too but it has limited effect. Just thought the treadcote would freshen it up a bit.

FWIW I dont think its a good idea to pressure wash treadmaster too often .... it wears it away a bit like pressure washing teak. I've found that the best way to get rid of that algae looking grime is to use a small garden sprayer with 'patio magic' ( or equivalent) cleaner in it. Leave for a week or so and it seems to keep the algae away for a few months.

It's a shame Treadmaster don't sell their product in a better (whiter) white. Does anyone know what's special about the Treadcote paint ? Could deckpaint be used instead ?

Previous owner of my boat spilt a small amount of deck paint, while painting the coach roof onto the Treadmaster( Diamond). Its impossible to remove, been there for about 12 years.

My diamond pattern Treadmaster on the old boat was discoloured and dirt/algae ingrained. A good scrub with a stiff scrubbing brush was needed to dislodge the muck and then I used the Treadmaster paint. It's excellent - as they say does what it says on the tin.

Expensive maybe but it does work.
