Can anyone tell me the type of paint best suited to the job? Any recommendations for paint? Previous owner was not so careful with the interior varnishing resulting in permanent yellow "splash" marks over the white seat and cover. I guess he was single at the time!

hmm. This seems like one issue where a new seat might be a load cheaper and give a better result.

But if you did want to paint something like that, it would be best sprayed. Sand it down with fine wetndry and take it to a car spray painters a long long way from the sea (so it'll be cheaper). This plan also gives you the opportunity to test clean the item with dangerous chemicals first (eg bleach, alcohol, tetrawhassername drycleaning fluid, petrol, acetone) and then continue with plan a above when this doesn't work?

G'day Andy,

I would have to agree with tcm, replacement might be the best solution, but if you must paint it, I think a two pack polyurethane would stand up very well, best sprayed on though.

Avoid reaction lacquer, some sun creams cause yellow spots to appear, not sure why.

I think you'd be fine as long as you got it nice and smooth and didn't sit down on it before it dried.
If the previous owner was such a bad aim perhaps the floor had better be getting a look at as well?

Thanks for the advice; I've found the part number for the seat and will look at ordering a new one, I think. I'd love to have the problem with the sun screen; but might have to move south a bit.
