Painting instrument covers

Car spray paint surely would be two pot and require to sprayed on? You would need to prime the job as well.

I've read an article on boat painting and these days the "roll and tip" is considered better way to paint a boat than spray painting.

But anyway if you only have a small amount to paint you are not going to crank up a compressor.

NOTE
Just looked at Halfords site and realise you mean a can of spray. (But you still need to prime it anyway)

Yes, can car sprays from Halfords; its quality paint and you will end with a good shiny finish if the conditions are right and you place the cover horizontally to avoid paint runs. You dont need primer, just make sure you clean the surface with thinners.

There must be a car window tinter near you, they usually also do car wrapping and have a wide selection of material designs, I've had some bits done in carbon fibre effect very cheaply, it is really good and UV resistant,

My listing just said "ended"

I don't think the IS 20 is the same size. IS 12 and IS 15 are the same size

Interesting My IS 11 is 110 mm square over the instrument without the cover as is IS 12 and 15. The manual for the IS20 gives a dimension of 114 mm but the pic looks like the cover is on so who knows.

The IS20 looks like it has rounded corners and the IS 11 12 15 has sharpish corners. os IMHO it up to the OP but if I was in need I would get one fabricated from white ABS (glued together).

So that is what ABS is "Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene". I wondered what is was. I got a lot of it (5mm & 10mm) out of the plastics jobbers bin the other day. Mine is all black but apparently it comes in different colors.

Yes I think you could fabricate one that way

Yes I have fabricated lots of covers this way mainly for covering electrical wiring as it is less breakable then perspex, cheaper than perspex and a lot cheaper than polycarb.

I am in the process of fabricating plate and bowl rack to fix to the underside of galley cupboard shelves.

Flat them off with progressively finer wet and dry to bring the colour back and then polish with a mop on a bench grinder. Yes, you can polish plastic very successfully.

As long as you don't get the plastic too hot otherwise it will melt and distort. I know I have done it.

Thank you to all that took the time to contribute to this thread - there are lost of good suggestions to follow up on.
I will try them and let you know.

I am just about to repair a Jabsco water pump off the Yanmar 3YMXX product range with new oil seal and bearings, Would the forum be interested in this if I publish this as a "how to guide"?

I am sure it would be. (Though you will risk being told you should have started with a different engine/boat/attitude!;)
