Painting engine

I once painted a car engine with ordinary car spray paint.
It was unaffected by the heat.

This must be the stuff. Reasonably cheap and must be heat proof one would hope or couldn't be sold as engine paint. http://www.marinescene.co.uk/product/8045/tk-colourspray-engine-spray-paint-volvo-penta-green

That's what I've used (see previous post). It's a perfect colour match to the original Volvo Penta green, but I've just noticed there were cracks in the paint at the engine block, so it probably isn't very heat resistant. I'll just give up and buy a can of the Volvo stuff at the next boat show. Perhaps it's actually worth the price.

.It's extremely difficult to get an in-situ engine clean enough for paint to adhere properly, let alone rubbing down the existing paintwork. I wonder if this difficulty is the cause of the unsatisfactory results so many people experience

I'm still undecided over paint. Halfords meadow green is the right colour and cheap but not temperature resistant, hammerite smooth melts with diesel and also not temp proof. Dedicated engine paints are only available in limited colours. Then there's the question of primers.........

I can assure you that car spray paint is temperature resistant. if your engine gets hotter than a car bonnet in the midday sun, you're in trouble!
