Painting bare GRP under upholstery?

Hi guys.
I’m about to change the fixed upholstery on my boat. I wished to paint the bare GRP prior to applying the glue and upholstery, to stop light getting through.
Has anyone done this before?
What paint should I use? I don’t want to have adhesion issues.

Flowcoat might be an option. It’s basically gelcoat with wax. Gelcoat does not cure in air, it needs the wax.
It’s commonly used to paint inside lockers and hulls where people don’t want a bare fibreglass look.

Flocoat is the stuff but do try to get the mix and temperature right, it doesn't like less than ten degs apparently. If it isn't right you can get a brush streaked appearance which can pick up mould and muck. Never tried it wth a roller. One I did earlier, mucky old boat, had to lightly grind back first. A wipe with acetome may be enough in your case. I used a half kg at a time, and reduced the catalyst as I went on, due to using the same pot. 2% max, bare 1% at the end.

Aha, but (edit) flocoat is very slick, and I just saw your adhesion comment, so maybe a test piece first?

I am currently using Danboline, but then covering it with a layer of insulation.

I painted all the inner fiberglass that was out of sight with Danboline and it stuck well and gave good easy coverage. You might want test on a small area to check it for adhesion if you are going to go ahead and paint.

Concrete floor paint, similar to Danboline, but much cheaper.
