I was given an old 2hp Johnson outboard. It works perfectly but the paint is peeling off in places. There's no corrosion on the aluminium bits but it looks scruffy and grey.I was thinking of brushing the alloy clean and paint with an epoxy primer and a two pot polyurethane.Any tips?

I would recommend Hammerite Special Metals Primer then Hammerite top coat of your choice of colour. I have used this combination with good results.

+1. Blakes do a "special metals primer" too. This is the way to go. I'd go the hammerite route myself after doing my Yamaha 4 with OEM paint (it was rubbish).

Not a fan of Hammerite but must admit I touch up my Evinrude with some smooth Hammerite mixed to match its colour.
Have not bothered with the primer for touching up but I would for a major paint job

Beware though. A smart one might get nicked. Scruffy probably won't.

Yes,I was thinking it might be a good idea to leave it looking scruffy...
