Hi
I would like to spruce up my old inflatable that is sound but very grubby looking and painting it would seem to be the solution. The specialist presumably flexible paint sold for inflatables is quite expensive - is there a cheaper alternative paint perhaps from the non-boating retail sources?

I think you should look at cleaning it properly before painting, you would be surprised what can be achieved with the know-how and right chemicals. Drop me a PM to discuss if you like.

I would caution you against it.

I tried to paint out a previous boat name using the correct (expensive) hypalon paint. The colour was different to the original due to the latter's ageing but after a season the new paint started to slough off and now it looks awful.

It could have been my preparation but I wouldn't try it again

I raised a similar thread a few months ago: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php?Number=2248915
Someone mentioned a product called Tuff-coat which looks quite promising, there are a few 'before and after' photos (although a few photos a year or two after would be useful!) on the manufacturers website.

Problem is you can't get it here and the suppliers don't seem to want to ship it outside the US (if anyone could enlighten me how I can get it in the UK I'd be grateful)

thanks chaps - I was initially thinking that painting would be a quick, cheap fix but as that is not the case and may throw up other problems some intensive scrubbing looks to be the answer. Thanks for helping me focus on this.
