Hi all

Have got a wee contessa 26 and the windows are leaking and slightly corroded. I have looked at the cost of replacement and its beyond my finances!

A sprayer mate seems confident that he can prep & spray the frames if i strip them down and I am wondering if anyone has had this done and does it fair well in the marine environment?

Also what is the best butyl sealant to use for bedding the glass back into the frames?

Any advice gratefully received as always!

I would just remove the frames and deliver them to your local powder coating spray shop, don't even bother to clean them, they will pickle them anyway to remove all the contaminants befor spraying and possible baking.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

I would do it myself, rub down, etch prime and spray can paint, simple, cheap and easy. I used clear marine sealant when replacing mine. When replacing the frames work from the middle out ;)

Sikaflex 296 is designed for bonding glass and is used in aluminium framed window refurbishment.

To seal the frame to the GRP use something like Arboseal GZ butyle tape. The thicker tape is very good for sealing frames which may have deformed slightly.
